The year of the insects!

jaybirdfarms

Every year has it challenges.  The farmers lament is “too hot, too cold, too wet, to dry!” I want to add too many bugs!

Aphids seemed to thrive in huge numbers.  Spraying with insecticidal soap helped some, but I did not want to spray any bees or beneficial insects.  I had to literally wash edible flowers by floating them in a small tub filled with cool water and dish soap.  then gently rinse them and let them air dry.

And the grasshoppers!  It was the biblical plague at the farm and in the greenhouse!  I am looking forward to cold weather in hopes that the bugs will freeze!  Maybe i need a few free range chickens or guinea hens for roving bug control!

And if I sound like I am whining,,,,, I am!

What was you biggest challenge this year?
